Barrie police release suspect images after alleged assault sends woman to hospital

Police released images of a suspect wanted in connection with an alleged assault in Barrie.

Barrie police are appealing to the public for help identifying a suspect after a woman was allegedly injured in a random assault Tuesday night in the city’s south end.

Officers were called to Mayfair Drive near Ardagh Road just after 9 p.m. following a report a woman had been assaulted by a stranger while walking along the sidewalk.

According to police, two people were walking through the area when the alleged incident happened. The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, which investigators say were caused by an edged weapon.

Police are calling the incident unprovoked and isolated.

On Thursday, the service released video and images of the suspect in hopes someone may recognize him. He is described as white, in his early 20s, roughly six feet tall with a thin build and shaggy, medium-length dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, dark shoes and a blue face mask. Police believe he took off the dark clothing seen in the surveillance footage and was then captured wearing a white t-shirt, beige pants, and red and white shoes.

Police urge the public to contact the authorities if the suspect is sighted. “Do not approach,” the service added.
