COQUITLAM, B.C. - A substitute teacher working in Coquitlam, B.C. has been charged with nine sex-related charges involving girls ages seven and eight, and police fear there may be more victims.

Thirty-five-year-old Aleksandr Vladimirovich Plehanov of Burnaby was arrested March 18, but police are only releasing details now, including the fact that he face three counts each of sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interference.

The RCMP say they launched an investigation after some parents reported on March 10 their daughter had been touched inappropriately by a Grade 3 substitute teacher.

Investigators discovered that two other girls from the same class had made similar allegations, with all of the alleged incidents happening on school property.

Police are asking parents to report any similar incidents that may have happened in schools where Plehanov taught between January 2007 and March 15.

Plehanov has been released on bail pending his next court appearance on June 3, and has been suspended from his teaching duties.
