A man who was the suspect in a double homicide that left two workers at a sushi restaurant in Burnaby, B.C. dead was shot and killed by police Wednesday.

Angus David Mitchell, 26, was shot by police in Maple Ridge B.C., just hours after they issued a public warning that he could be connected to a shooting that left the two restaurant employees dead on Sunday. He was also a suspect in another shooting involving his former landlord on Tuesday night.

Police said they received a tip from the public shortly after their 10 a.m. warning, saying that Mitchell's green 1994 Aerostar minivan was spotted in a rural area of the lower mainland.

RCMP officers followed the van and investigators say Mitchell eventually opened fire on officers at an equestrian centre.

He did not hit any police officers before he was shot.

He was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

"It's not a happy day for us," Supt. Dave Walsh told CTV B.C. "It's not the resolution we were looking for."

At their earlier press conference to warn the public, police said Mitchell was emotionally unstable, unpredictable and was carrying a high-powered rifle with a scope.

"We're also warning anyone who has any previous association with Angus Mitchell, that if there has been any conflict with him at any point in the past, that you need to take precautions to safeguard yourself," RCMP Insp. Tim Shields said.

Police believed that Mitchell's landlord evicted him about six months ago, which may have lead to the shooting on Monday night where the landlord was wounded.

Mitchell was also the suspect in the shooting deaths of a man and a woman who worked at Royal Oak Sushi House on Sunday. Police said they were still looking into possible links between Mitchell and the slain employees.

Victoria police said Mitchell did not have a previous criminal record, but he was known to them for what they described as a few minor incidents.

Before the shootings, Mitchell had posted a profanity-filled rant on his Facebook account, targeting a security company he had worked for during three events in Victoria.

In particular, Mitchell's post targeted company owner Mirko Filipovic.

"Who gives a wink about you, Mirko? ...Don't you ever try to talk to me as if you can give me an order. You do not deserve my attention," part of the post read.

Filipovic said Mitchell was a good employee who was always on time and well-dressed.

Filipovic said he got a call from Victoria police, saying they would like him to take extra precautions.

He moved his family members to another home.

A few weeks ago, Mitchell was laid off from another Victoria security company and staff there wouldn't talk about him.

Vancouver city police will investigate Wednesday's RCMP shooting.
