Porsche took the wraps off of its next-generation 2015 911 GT3 RS at the Geneva Motor Show this week, a car they promise is as close as you can get to a racecar you can drive on the street.

The new GT3 RS, the top-spec performance-oriented version of the iconic 911, features the company's all-new 4.0-litre flat-six engine, giving it the biggest, most powerful engine in the range.

The new powerplant delivers 500 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Porsche says the car will run from 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds.

The new GT3 RS also lapped the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in just seven minutes, 20 seconds, making it the fastest current 911 around the benchmark course, some five seconds faster than the current 911 GT3.

As a track-ready variant of the 911, you won't find many luxuries in the GT3 RS. Instead you get features like torque vectoring, more widely stanced rubber (the widest tires ever fitted to a 911, in fact), and a "pit speed" button that will limit the car's speed as the driver leaves the race track.

Porsche product boss Wolfgang Hatz said earlier this year that the company plans on sticking turbochargers on all future 911s, meaning this could be one of the last naturally aspired 911 GT3s for some time.

The car is already available to order in Europe and should hit North America in late spring or early summer. Pricing starts at around $250,000.
