The Italian supercar company has sent out a cryptic press invite that simply reads: "Once perfection is achieved, you can just double it," suggesting that it is planning to reveal a new four-seat model at this year's event.
Lamborghini is the only established supercar company that doesn't offer a 2+2 configuration. Ferrari has the FF, all standard specification Porsche 911s have a back seat and Aston Martin offers the Vanquish and the DB9.
What makes Lamborghini's absence from the grand tourer segment of the market even stranger is that the company built its reputation as precisely that. It was offering a 2+2 in the form of the 400GT back in 1964. And until the launch of the Gallardo in 2003, the company's biggest-selling car of all time was the Espada, which boasted four proper seats and plenty of luggage space.
At the Paris Motor Show in 2008, Lamborghini took the wraps off the Estoque concept, a beautifully styled, four-seat four-door super sedan and promised that the concept would become a reality within four years. However, the financial crisis hit hard, plans were scrapped and the company's focus shifted to extending the range with a sporty SUV instead.
Six years on, supercar companies are back to enjoying record sales and maybe the time is right for a Lamborghini that offers fun for all of the family.
All will be revealed on October 2 when the Paris Motor Show opens its doors to the world's motoring press.
