HL: P.E.I. successfully recruits 20 health-care professionals from the U.S.

Twenty health-care professionals from the United States have accepted offers to work in Prince Edward Island this year.

The province says it is actively recruiting health-care professionals and has recently hired physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and laboratory technologists.

Between Jan. 1, 2025 and July 22, 2025, P.E.I. says 26 new physicians signed agreements with the province and five of those physicians will be relocating to the Island from the United States.

Thirteen of the physicians have already started practicing, seven are set to begin later this year, and the final six will start in 2026.

“We have consistently seen workforce growth over the past 18 months, actively recruiting health care professionals from PEI, Canada and abroad,” said Mark McLane, minister of Health and Wellness, in a news release from the province.

“From the new Physician Services Agreement to incentives for allied health care professionals, we have several tools in our toolkit to assist with recruitment efforts. We are pleased to welcome 20 new health care professionals from the US to Prince Edward Island.”

P.E.I. took steps to streamline the licensing process for internationally trained health-care professionals in 2023, according to the release. The province adds programs like Transition to Registered Nursing in Canada Program and the RN Bridging Program also helping with the process.
