P.E.I. introduces new youth cyberviolence prevention funding

Prince Edward Island is launching new Anti-Racism Youth Cyberviolence Prevention Grants to help address cyberbullying and other forms of cyberviolence.

The funding will support projects that enhance digital literacy, online safety and youth engagement, while helping communities prevent and respond to cyberviolence.

“We hope that this funding will assist young people to build the skills, knowledge, and connections they need to create safer and more inclusive online communities,” said P.E.I. Premier Rob Lantz in a news release from the province.

Young people, individuals and organizations can apply for the grants. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 30.

The grants will be available in three streams:

• Youth and individual applicants can apply for amounts up to $2,500
• Communities, organizations, and charities can apply for amounts up to $5,000
• Larger community projects by organizations can apply for amounts up to $25,000

“We live in a time of fast-moving technology, and it’s important to draw on community knowledge and expertise to better address cyberbullying and other forms of cyberviolence,” said Minister of Justice and Public Safety Bloyce Thompson. “When we connect these projects with work underway across government, we are taking meaningful action to protect Island youth.”
