P.E.I.-based doctor Trevor Jain has been appointed to the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians for a two-year term as national scientific chair. “Emergency medicine is a team sport,” Jain told CTV News Atlantic’s Todd Battis. “I’m very thankful to the board to have faith in me.” Jain, who has led the emergency department at P.E.I.’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said he hopes to focus on outflow issues in hospitals. “We have ER overcrowding because we have an outflow problem,” he said. “When there’s no place for our patients to go, we have an outflow problem. Some jurisdictions are trying to address that.” According to a news release, the national scientific chair works with physicians, researchers and educators to advance scholarship and innovation in emergency medicine. “Dr. Jain will help shape the organization’s scientific programming and support research initiatives that contribute to the advancement of emergency medicine nationwide,” the release reads. Jain said the association’s annual meeting will be held in Halifax next May. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
