Prince Edward Island is adding 82 long-term care beds to the Whisperwood nursing home in Charlottetown. The province awarded a contract to Enhanced Living to expand its Whisperwood facility. The government will provide $3.5 million annually over a 30-year agreement to cover construction costs, according to a news release. The province will also provide $10.1 million annually to offset accommodation costs once the beds are operational. “As seniors’ needs change, the right level of care should be there for them, said Minister of Health and Wellness Cory Deagle in the release. “These 82 new beds will help more Islanders access long-term care while staying close to family and the places they know best.” According to the government, 222 long-term care beds are currently under development in Charlottetown, Cornwall and Summerside. The province expects the total number of long-term care beds in the province to increase by 1,595 by 2029. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
