Police say they continue to investigate the homicide of a young woman in Dartmouth, N.S., 35 years after her death. Officers responded to a report of a person who was believed to be dead along the north side of Lake Mic Mac around 1 p.m. on June 5, 1991. A man had been walking in the area next to Highway 118 when he came upon the body. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Carla Gail Strickland and her death was ruled a homicide. Police say Strickland celebrated a friend’s birthday at a popular Halifax club on June 2. She then reportedly went with three men to Albro Lake Beach in Dartmouth, where they stayed until dawn. Police say one of the men dropped Strickland off at the Tim Hortons on Wyse Road around 7 a.m. the next day. She was reportedly going to use a pay telephone at the restaurant. It was the last time she was seen alive. Investigators believe there are people who have information that could help solve the case. “Investigators hope that the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know,” reads a news release from Halifax Regional Police. “It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.” Strickland’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program. The program offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction for certain major unsolved crimes.
