Teen charged with impaired driving, bribery of officers in Lower Sackville, N.S.

An 18-year-old who allegedly offered money to officers has been charged with impaired driving and other offences following a crash in Lower Sackville, N.S., last week.

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 102 around 5:38 a.m. on Oct. 21.

Officers found a Volkswagen Golf with front-end damage parked on the side of the highway.

Police say the driver and sole occupant was standing beside the car and officers noticed signs of impairment.

“The officer demanded the driver provide a roadside breath sample to which he refused and then tried to give the officer money to leave,” a release from RCMP said.

Cooper Patrick Henson of Lantz was arrested for refusing to comply with a breath screening demand and taken to Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment, according to the release.

Police say Henson was combative during the booking process. He is facing additional charges of:

• operating while impaired
• refusal to comply with breath screening demand
• bribery of officers
• resisting peace officer
• fail to comply with undertaking

Henson was held for court on the same day and was released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court in Shubenacadie provincial court at a later date.
