Halifax festival brings community together through ‘lots of flying colours’

The 10th annual Halifax Colour Festival took place Saturday at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, N.S.

The 10th annual Halifax Colour Festival took place. It was put on by the Indian Festivals Club of Nova Scotia.

“It’s a great family friendly event,” said Dolly Mirpuri with the festival.

“What we do here is try to bring the community together through lots of flying colours, so here we spread love and unity.”

Halifax Colour Festival is inspired by Holi, a major Hindu festival.

“Because that’s usually celebrated in March, we are trying to do it in September where there’s more life in the Halifax community as people return to university and back to school,” said Mirpuri.

“It’s a great way to welcome everybody back into the city.”

The festival also featured live entertainment, dancing and games, with colour throwing every 10 to 15 minutes.
