The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating after a male youth was seriously injured during an arrest in Woodstock, N.B. SiRT says an off-duty police officer with the Woodstock Police Force (WPF) identified the youth at a local store who was “arrestable for previous offences” during the evening of Oct. 7. The off-duty officer contacted WPF, who responded to the store. Officers located the youth, who allegedly fled on foot and was taken to the ground by an officer during the arrest. The youth was then taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious leg injury, says SiRT. SiRT says they received a referral from WPF the same day and started their investigation immediately. SiRT handles all investigations involving death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence which may have arisen from action of police officers in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
