The Nova Scotia Government is spending $366,000 to promote local boatbuilding companies. The government says the money will go to the Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association to help local companies get promotion at industry trade shows and missions, key trade publications, and through online communications. In a news release Monday, the province said the spending will help boatbuilders in the province compete internationally for naval contracts. “Nova Scotia’s boatbuilders are known for their skill, innovation and quality. By building up Nova Scotia’s boatbuilding sector, we are helping these businesses reach new markets, win new work and create good jobs,” said Growth, Development and Defence Industries Minister, Colton LeBlanc, in the announcement. “The success of our province’s boatbuilders will strengthen coastal communities, support industries such as fisheries and aquaculture, and contribute to economic growth and prosperity across our entire province.” The spending is through the province’s Community Economic Development Fund, which aims to support community-based projects in areas like rural development, buy-local initiatives, food security, workforce development, investment attraction, tourism and entrepreneurship.
