A new board book is introducing babies to the phases of the moon. “Moon Lullaby” shares the different moon phases, paired with a short rhyming poem. “The moon has been showing up in my artwork in the last few years,” author and illustrator Brianna Corr Scott told CTV Your Morning Atlantic’s Crystal Garrett. “I see the moon as a motherly figure and it just beings me back to when my teens were baby’s and you would wake up in the middle of the night and the moon is shining down on you. It’s like that feeling of someone watching down on you over the night.” Each page includes illustrations showing the magic of nature and the bond between parents and little ones. “Every book that I make its like I’m building a world from scratch, so I really try to put every single detail that I possibly can in,” says Scott. “For this poem instead of having the rhyme as a couplet I have it at the beginning and the end. I wanted that because the moon is a little bit bizarre and inspires wonder and I wanted the poem to sound and match that feeling.” The last page of the book also includes an illustration of the full moon cycle. “I really had to learn about the phases myself to do that page and hat was really fun,” says Scott. “Moon Lullaby” was published by Nimbus Publishing and is available online and at bookstores.
