New Glasgow, N.S., police charge man with alleged sexual offences from 1980s to 1990s

New Glasgow, N.S., police have charged a 65-year-old man with alleged sexual offences that were committed between 1986 and 1996.

Police launched an investigation last July after receiving a report about the offences. The victim was a child at the time, according to police.

Joseph James (Short) Johnson was charged with:

• three counts of sexual interference
• two counts of sexual assault
• two counts of sexual exploitation
• two counts of invitation to sexual touching
• incest

Johnson was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 19.
