A portion of a redeveloped hospital in Bridgewater, N.S., is now welcoming patients. The new South Shore Regional Hospital emergency department opened at 6 a.m. Wednesday. An event was held Tuesday to also celebrate a new renal dialysis unit, as well as expanded and upgraded spaces for endoscopy services. Nova Scotia Health says those areas are slated to open later this month as part of the redevelopment’s phased opening. “It is so exciting to finally be ready to move in and start providing care to patients in these new spaces,” said CEO Dr. Nicole Boutilier in a news release. “Staff, physicians and teams have done plenty of planning and preparation in order to safely transition into their new work areas in a way that will minimize disruption for patients and families.” More than $10.8 million was raised in support of the redevelopment through the South Shore Health Foundation’s Brighter Days campaign. “We are proud to have played a role in helping bring these new spaces and services to our community, and deeply grateful to everyone who chose to invest in the health and wellbeing of our community for generations to come,” said CEO Arleen Stevens. Nova Scotia Health says work continues on the redevelopment project to repurpose former spaces around the hospital. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
