A teen and a youth, both from New Brunswick, are facing charges following a dangerous driving incident outside Halifax last Friday. RCMP first responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically and entering oncoming traffic on Highway 7 in Oyster Pond, N.S., around 6:45 p.m. Police say a Mazda sedan with a New Brunswick licence plate had last been seen travelling westbound with two people inside. An officer saw the car passing Highway 357 and tried to stop it further down Highway 7 in Musquodoboit Harbour. Police say the driver didn’t stop and continued westbound at a high rate of speed. Officers received a second call about the same vehicle around 7:15 p.m. Police say the car was driving “all over the road” and into oncoming traffic on Highway 107 in Mineville. The vehicle then allegedly performed a U-turn on the highway and headed east. A tire deflation device was then deployed as the Mazda travelled towards Porters Lake and the vehicle stopped at a home on West Porters Lake Road. Police say the driver fled on foot but was quickly arrested. The passenger was not found right away. Police say the vehicle they were in was stolen in Moncton, N.B., on Sept. 3 and was displaying a stolen licence plate. RCMP officers then responded to a suspicious person in the area where the car stopped around 10:30 p.m. Police say they found a youth matching the description of the passenger from the stolen vehicle and they were arrested. The driver, 18-year-old Dawson Thomas of Richibucto Village, N.B., is charged with: The passenger, a Moncton youth, has been charged with: Both were held in custody and appeared in Halifax provincial court on Tuesday. Thomas remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday. The youth has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 2.
