More tickets issued at N.S. cannabis stores after raids in Cape Breton

The Nova Scotia RCMP has raided more cannabis outlets in First Nations lands.

Police say they have issued more tickets and seized more products following raids on cannabis stores in Nova Scotia last week.

RCMP officers conducted inspections in the following areas last Thursday and Friday:

• the 9100 block of Highway 105 in Whycocomagh
• the 4200 block of Shore Rd. in Eskasoni

Summary offence tickets were issued to two people – one at each store. They were also issued appearance notices for offences involving illegal tobacco.

Police say a variety of cannabis products were seized. Officers continue to document and inventory the seized items.

Police say hash was also found in Whycocomagh, along with hundreds of cannabis items that had been packaged to resemble ordinary items like candy, potato chips, cookies, chocolate bars and cereal.

The investigations remain ongoing.

“We’re committed to reducing the impact of illegal cannabis storefronts in our communities,” said Supt. Jason Popik in a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP.

“We’re now seeing more storefronts that are closed as we continue our inspection efforts. This is an early indication that police efforts to have these storefronts cease operations is working.”

The news follows raids on six Indigenous-owned cannabis stores in northeast Nova Scotia at the beginning of the month.

In those incidents, six people were ticketed and officers seized cannabis, hash, shatter, and various tobacco and nicotine products.
