Man facing firearms charges after officers seize loaded handgun: Halifax Regional Police

A 35-year-old man is facing several firearms charges after Halifax police say officers seized a loaded handgun as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police arrested Alexander Vandonick on the Chain of Lakes Trail around 7 p.m. on Friday. Along with the gun, police say they seized a quantity of drugs and money.

Vandonick was scheduled to appear in court on Monday to face charges of:

• possess weapon dangerous to public peace
• store firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• possess a firearm – no licence or certificate
• possess loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
• possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
• two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
• possession for the purpose of distributing
• possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling
