A man is facing charges after police say he stole an ambulance from a hospital in Antigonish, N.S. RCMP responded to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on Bay Steet around 4:15 p.m. Thursday following a report of a stolen ambulance. Police say the ambulance was empty at the time of the theft and no injuries were reported. Officers later saw the ambulance on Beech Hill Road and tried to pull it over. Police say the driver didn’t stop and continued onto St. Andrews Street. “In the interest of public safety, officers didn’t pursue the ambulance but continued to track its movements,” reads an RCMP news release. “Another traffic stop was attempted on Hwy. 104 near James River. The ambulance again failed to stop.” Officers then deployed a spike belt, which deflated the ambulance’s tires, but it kept driving along Highway 104. Police say the ambulance ended up on the shoulder of the highway near New Glasgow and the driver was arrested.
