Man arrested for allegedly assaulting police officer in Westville, N.S.

A 34-year-old man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted a police officer in Westville, N.S., on Saturday night.

An officer checked a vehicle that appeared to be broken down on South Main Street around 9:21 p.m.

The driver allegedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired driving, according to a news release from Westville Police Service.

“During the arrest, the suspect assaulted the officer,” the release reads. “While a search of the vehicle was being conducted, the officer located a firearm and ammunition inside.”

Corey Patrick Blinkhorn was set to appear in court on Monday to face charges of:

• assaulting a police officer
• resisting arrest
• possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• unsafe storage of a firearm
• possession of a weapon or ammunition contrary to a court order
• unauthorized possession of a motor vehicle
• impaired operation of a motor vehicle
• possession of property obtained by crime
