Motorists should be ready for some changes to road rules around the Halifax Regional Municipality next week. These changes will be in place starting Tuesday morning, A handful of intersections will be removing the left-turning lanes while another (northbound on Connaught Avenue) is getting an extra turning lane for drivers looking to enter Quinpool Road. At the corner of Gottingen, Duke and Brunswick streets, there will be no left turns from Gottingen onto Brunswick. Heading towards the Macdonald Bridge on North Street, motorist won’t be able to make a left turn onto Gottingen during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Vehicles heading in both directions on Jubilee Road will no longer be able to turn left onto Oxford during the afternoon rush hour only. Halifax spokesperson Jake Fulton says no single change is going to eliminate congestion across the municipality, but these small tweaks can help with traffic flow and increase safety for pedestrians. “We worked with consultants to review efficiencies that can be found in the existing transportation network so these are sort of fast things that we can do to make things better for the most number of people, for the largest number of people, while we’re still working on those larger transportation projects,” says Fulton. Fulton admits there might be some confusion as people get used to these new rules of the road. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
