More than 1,000 cyclists hit the pavement for the QEII Foundation’s final Ride for Cancer in Halifax on Saturday. The 12th annual event raised an historic $4 million to support cancer care at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. “We really are proud that we have a thousand people, some actually riding for the first time, some for the 12th time… We are thrilled,” said QEII Foundation president and CEO Sandra Mullin. Since the event began in 2015, it has raised more than $19.1 million. The QEII Foundation announced earlier this year that 2026 would be its last Ride for Cancer. “We are so proud of the storytelling this event allows us to do. People care and people give. It’s a thousand riders, but it’s thousands of donors and we’re just delighted,” said Mullin. Money raised through Ride for Cancer has been used to fund cancer-fighting technology, equipment and spaces at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. The QEII Foundation previously shared it wants to create a “sustainable model to fund cancer care in the province” and is “pivoting to a new peer-to-peer event.” Those details have not yet been made public.
