The federal government is spending up to $1.5 million to prevention gun and gang violence in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The money, which comes through the Building Safer Communities Fund, will provide children, youth and young people opportunities that lead away from guns and gangs, according to a news release. “Every young person deserves the chance to make good choices, feel supported, and see a positive path ahead,” said Mike Kelloway, MP for Sydney-Glace Bay, in the release. “This funding is about reaching youth early — before they start heading down the wrong path — and making sure they have safe spaces, trusted people and real opportunities around them.” Last March the federal government announced it would give the Building Safer Communities Fund $157.5 million over the next three years.
