The head of a youth club in Cape Breton is speaking out after a string of summer vandalism at the not-for-profit facility. The latest incident happened Monday night, when graffiti was found on the outdoor playground at the Boys and Girls Club in Whitney Pier, N.S. Executive director Chester Borden said youth were caught on security cameras climbing on the club’s van. He said this summer has been the worst in the club’s 21 years for this problem, adding that unfortunately it appears to be young people vandalizing a place meant to help the area’s youth. “It’s kind of disappointing to have to deal with the negative stuff,” Borden said. “As you see here today, there are 70-plus kids in the building having fun, doing what this club is meant to do and it’s somewhat sad at times that at times we have to deal with the negative stuff.” Borden said racist graffiti was found at the club in July. Cape Breton Regional Police has been notified about the latest incident. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
