A business in Cape Breton has released surveillance video following last week’s emergency alert, which involved a live grenade. Cape Breton Regional Police Service were called to 153 Pitt St. around 7:30 a.m. last Wednesday after the item was found inside a building on the property. Nearby buildings were evacuated, the street was closed, and an emergency alert was issued. Police said it appeared someone threw the grenade into the property. A hole could be seen in the front door window of the business, Ideal Car Care. An explosive unit later removed and safely disposed of the device. Surveillance video released The towing business released two videos of the apparent incident on Facebook Wednesday evening. The first video shows a man using a sling shot, and later his elbow, to try and break the door’s window. The second video, taken a few minutes later, shows the man approach the building and break the window with a hammer. He then appears to take an item out of his pocket before putting it through the window and running away. “We would like to thank the community for the on going concern about the incident that happened a week ago at our shop. We are thankful for all the kind words and help from everybody,” the businesses’ post reads. “Luckily enough nobody was hurt, this could have been really bad if the grenade went off. To clarify there was no grenade in a car, this happened approximately 4:30 a.m. when nobody was around.” The business says it is offering a $10,000 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. On the day of the incident, police would not confirm if there were any suspects, citing the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call Cape Breton Regional Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
