Nominations for Nova Scotia’s new riding of Chéticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay by-election are now closed. Carrying the colours of their respective parties are: The electoral boundary commission recommended the creation of the new riding to recognize the Acadian communities in that area of Cape Breton. “The new electoral district was formed based on recommendations from the electoral boundary commission that were tabled in the legislature this past spring session,” says elections Nova Scotia’s director of policy and communications Naomi Shelton. Early voting was done using write-in ballots and, with nominations now closed, voting is shifting to e-ballots. “E ballot is our in-person electronic voting system, and it has been used in the last provincial general election and in two previous by-elections. So, it is electronic voting, but it’s done in person at the voting location on a secure tablet,” Shelton says. Election day for the new riding is Tuesday, June 23 and voting will close at 8 o’clock that night.
