Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S., has ratified a new collective agreement with dozens of its library staff, laboratory technicians and administrative assistants following negotiations last month. The university says the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2 – which represents 87 members on the campus – ratified the deal on Thursday. Negotiations were held for four days in October. “This is the second time this year I’ve been able to say how proud I am of everyone involved in negotiating a new collective agreement,” said university president and vice-chancellor Jeff Hennessy in a news release. “One of our core commitments in our strategic direction is encouraging teamwork, and this successful collective bargaining reinforces our commitment to a work environment that supports employees.” Earlier this year the university ratified its 17th bargaining agreement with its faculty association. “I am incredibly proud of our SEIU team, and our efforts throughout this process,” said Lucas Evans, chief shop steward for SEIU. “I’m also very impressed with our Acadia counterparts, who arrived at the table prepared and signaled that the university was ready to engage in a meaningful and empathetic way.” For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
