Three days after NB Power brought the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station back online, they took it off the grid for more repairs. The station reconnected to the grid on Sept. 8 after a week of work on its gasket in the turbine system. On Sept. 11, NB Power once again took it offline, this time to repair a small instrumentation line inside the reactor building. “The location of the line cannot be accessed safely while the station is operating and must be taken offline to complete the repair,” a news release from NB Power reads. “Specialized teams are currently carrying out detailed assessments as well as preparations to progress this work and determine a timeline for repairs. “There is no risk to the public, employees, or the environment.” Point Lepreau, which supplies roughly one-third of New Brunswick’s electricity, has been offline for much of 2026. It underwent a four-month planned maintenance outage from April to August, during which time crews completed more than 20,000 tasks.
