New Brunswick government spending $200,000 to support authors

The New Brunswick government is spending $200,000 to support authors in the province.

According to the province, the funding will support authors developing and publishing their works, helping cover costs associated with producing a book.

Recipients for the funding have already been selected, with grants bring issued over three fiscal years beginning in the 2026-29 funding period.

“As literacy challenges intensify in our province, and as humanity more than ever needs to identify what connects us to one another, this support is very timely. Authors and illustrators, as well as their works, are unparalleled ambassadors of the province, and they rely on well-supported professional publishers to showcase their work far and wide,” said literary and general director of Bouton d’or Acadie – Mouton noir Acadie, Marie Cadieux, in the announcement Friday.

The funding also brings the amount for the provincial Book and Periodical Publishers Operational Support Program for the 2026-29 period to $550,000.

“This increase underscores the importance of the literary sector and its contribution to our province’s identity and economy,” said Tourism, Heritage, and Culture Minister Isabelle Theriault. “With this increased funding, we have been able to support three new publishers, bringing the total number of funded publishers to nine.”
