The Government of New Brunswick is mailing out voter information cards this week ahead of the local elections in May. The cards advise residents when and where to vote as well as which elections to vote in. Nearly 325,000 voter information cards are being sent through Canada Post in advance of the May 11 elections across the province. Local government, rural district advisory committees and district education councils will be on the ballots. Kim Poffenroth, chief electoral officer, encourages voters to bring the cards with them to vote as it ensures faster service. “Each card contains a unique bar code that helps polling staff quickly find the elector’s name on the voters list, strike them off, and send them on their way to get a ballot,” she says in a news release from the province. Those who do not receive a card or don’t bring it to the polling station will be directed to a team that will find them on the voters list and add them, if necessary.
