New Brunswick will add 90 long-term care beds for seniors in New Maryland. The beds are intended for seniors who have significant and ongoing care needs, according to a news release from the province. “Long-term care licensing approval is a major investment in the future of the village of New Maryland, providing a much-needed home for long-term care patients and freeing valuable capacity at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital,” said New Maryland Mayor Alex Scholten in the release. “It also strengthens local health care through a potential Nursing Home Without Walls program, helps attract physicians and other health-care practitioners, creates jobs and economic growth, and generates valuable tax revenue for the village.” In August, the province announced an annual investment of roughly $90 million to establish 360 long-term care beds across New Brunswick. “Adding long-term care beds in communities across the province means more seniors will have access to care where they live,” said Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau in the release. “These new beds will help seniors remain close to their families and support networks as their care needs change.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
