The Nutrien Civic Centre (NCC) in Sussex, N.B., will reopen its doors on Friday. Last week, the staff and public were informed the facility would have to close due to funding shortfalls and an inability to make payroll. Stefanie McFarlane told CTV News Atlantic it was a sad day, admitting there were lots of tears and hugs. But in a video address on social media Thursday morning, she announced the community centre would open again. “Because we miss you all as much as you miss this facility,” she said. McFarlane mentioned the decision came after speaking with the board Wednesday night. “We will continue as we have, we will work very hard in creating a long-term sustainability plan, look for fundraising opportunities,” she said. In a statement to CTV News Atlantic, McFarlane said the facility has work to do to become more self-sustaining but will always need community support. She said she’s looking forward to forging a positive path with the Kings Regional Service Commission and their community stakeholders. Some changes to come include an update to the facility’s membership model set to roll out Friday as well. “Not huge changes, just something to streamline the process,” McFarlane said. “We’re very excited and we’ll see you all tomorrow.
