A man is facing charges after he allegedly fled from police while impaired in the Moncton, N.B., area last week. Members of the Codiac Regional RCMP first saw a 23-year-old man driving what was believed to be a stolen vehicle on Sept. 16. Police say they were not able to safely arrest him at the time due to his “history of failing to stop for police.” The man was reportedly found in the same vehicle outside a business on Coverdale Road in Riverview around 2 p.m. the next day. Police say they successfully deployed a tire deflation device as the man tried to flee. A passenger in the vehicle, a 29-year-old man from Turtle Creek, N.B., was arrested and later released on conditions. Police say the driver continued to speed away on deflated tires with another male passenger inside the vehicle. Officers did not pursue them. About 20 minutes later, the vehicle was found abandoned near High Street and Hawker Avenue in Moncton. The driver and the passenger allegedly fled on foot. However, the driver, a 23-year-old man from Moncton, was arrested in the area “within minutes.” Alex McClure appeared in Moncton provincial court on Friday.
