A 45-year-old man from Kingsclear First Nation in New Brunswick is facing multiple charges following a police operation in the community. The Keswick RCMP detachment responded to a report of a man destroying property at a residence on Muwin Crescent around 10 p.m. Saturday. “When members arrived at the scene, they located the suspect, a 45-year-old man, who was attempting to destroy a camper trailer on the property. He then threatened police officers with a weapon before barricading himself inside of the residence with the weapon,” reads a news release from the New Brunswick RCMP. The RCMP deployed several specialized teams to the scene, including a crisis negotiator who attempted to negotiate with the man. Police say he refused to follow police commands or surrender. “At approximately 3 a.m., CS gas (tear gas) was deployed into the residence which forced the man to exit and he was subsequently arrested. No one was injured during the event,” reads the release. Police say the incident did not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready, however nearby residences were advised to shelter in place. Gabriel Perley appeared in Fredericton provincial court Monday and was charged with: He was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 6 to enter a plea. “The quick and skillful police work from our general duty members and specialized units allowed this situation to come to a successful resolution with no physical injuries.” said Sgt. Stephane Lemire of the West District RCMP in the release. “We also thank the nearby residents and the Kingsclear First Nation community for their patience and understanding during this incident.” The investigation is ongoing.
