Inmate at N.B. jail dies after being transported to hospital

An inmate at a New Brunswick jail has died after being transported to hospital days earlier.

New Brunswick’s Justice Department said Malcolm MacInnis, 59, was an inmate at the Dalhousie Regional Correctional Centre. He was taken to the Campbellton Regional Hospital on Aug. 31 after being seen by facility medical staff.

The department said he died Thursday. It did not provide a cause of death, but said neither foul play nor self-harm are suspected.

MacInnis was “serving a sentence in custody,” though the department did not say what for or for how long.

The RCMP and coroner services have been notified of his death.
