Shippagan, N.B., is getting $1.5 million for infrastructure projects that are expected to enable more housing in the area. The work includes the construction of two new streets (Jeux de l’Acadie Street and des Fondateurs Street) and the extension of water, sanitary sewer and stormwater systems. The underground infrastructure will service two vacant lots for planned residential developments, according to a news release. The federal government is spending $750,314 on the projects while the New Brunswick government is chipping in $500,160. The Town of Shippagan is contributing $250,155. “By providing the municipality with the infrastructure needed to support the construction of approximately 69 new homes, we are helping families, young people and workers find a place to call home here in our region,” said Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier in the release. “These investments will also benefit our local contractors and businesses, generate economic activity, and help Shippagan continue to grow.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
