A gala in Dieppe, N.B., is hoping to connect local community leaders and businesses to raise money for a good cause. The Hero’s Gala is organized by the Lions Sick Children’s Fund – an organization which helps the families of sick children with fees often associated with getting them to specialized care. “This is a fund that helps families. If you can imagine your child sick and having to be rushed to the IWK, the province of New Brunswick will get the child there, we help get the families there, and we help with transportation, housing, and food,” said Bruce MacLeod, president of the Lions Sick Children’s Fund in an interview with CTV Your Morning Atlantic’s Crystal Garrett. The fund has helped more than 1,900 families across New Brunswick since 2001, with almost $2 million being given out. The gala aims to bring together community leaders and local businesses. The event will feature a four-course dinner, a magic and mind reading show, and a silent auction. “There are some really interesting items. One of my favourites is called ‘No Cook Fridays,’ so we we’re aiming for 52 restaurant coupons, so you didn’t have to cook for a year. We’ve surpassed that. We have a golfer’s package, we have something for everyone,” said Deb Edwards, director of the fund. Tickets for the Hero’s Gala can be purchased through the Lions Sick Children’s Fund.
