Eligible New Brunswickers can now apply for Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit

Eligible New Brunswickers can now apply for the 2025 Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit, which increased to $616 on Tuesday.

To qualify for the benefit, a person must be 60 years of age or older and a resident of New Brunswick.

They must also be receiving one of the following federal benefits under the Old Age Security Act:

• Guaranteed Income Supplement (must be 65 years or older)
• Allowance Program (must be between 60-64 years old)
• Allowance for the Survivor Program (must be between 60-64 years old)

“We recognize that many low-income seniors face financial challenges, particularly with the rising cost of living,” said Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for seniors.

“This program provides much-needed support, helping more than 50,000 seniors across the province manage their household expenses. We are committed to ensuring they receive this assistance quickly and efficiently.”

The Government of New Brunswick says if both spouses receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement and live in the same household, only one benefit will be granted.

However, if spouses live separately – such as if one lives in a nursing home – both will be eligible for the benefit.

“We are committed to supporting seniors so they can live with dignity and financial security,” said Social Development Minister Cindy Miles. “Eligible seniors have until Dec. 31 to apply, and I encourage all those who qualify to take advantage of this benefit.”

Applications for the benefit can be submitted online. They are also available at Service New Brunswick locations.
