The RCMP’s deployment of body-worn cameras (BWCs) has been postponed in the New Brunswick communities of Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview. Despite the delay, the Codiac Regional RCMP says it remains committed to the deployment of BWCs. In a social media post, the force points to staffing restraints and current workloads at the provincial RCMP level, which oversees the program, as the reason for the delay. “Every effort is being made to prioritize this important technology for the frontline police officers,” reads the post. “We remain committed to enhancing transparency, accountability, and public trust through the eventual deployment of Body-Worn Cameras, and we look forward to bringing this valuable tool to our communities.” The force says BWC training is planned for the new year.
