Air Canada introduces new N.B. flights to Ottawa

Air Canada has resumed their daily non-stop flights between Fredericton and Ottawa which was lost during COVID.

Air Canada is introducing two new routes from New Brunswick to Ottawa this week.

The non-stop flights will connect Fredericton with Ottawa, and Moncton with Ottawa, year-round in partnership with St. John’s, N.L.-based PAL Airlines.

“Restoring connectivity after the pandemic was a challenge,” says David Rheault, Air Canada’s vice-president of government and community relations. “From our perspective, we have new agreements with carriers that allow us to offer more capacity.”

Rheault was in Fredericton on Monday for the return of Air Canada’s direct flight between the provincial capital and national capital – a service which was eliminated during the pandemic.

“For us, it’s really a route that’s based on a solid business case,” says Rheault . “If we look at increasing demand here from the community… the government sector, the defence sector, but also the business and service sector... it was all those demands that were factored in, to take the decision to resume this new flight.”

Air Canada is also changing its daily flight schedule between Fredericton and Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, with an early morning departure and late-night return allowing for same-day travel.
