All three levels of government are spending a joint $7.1 million for improvements to infrastructure in two New Brunswick towns. The spending, through the provincial-territorial stream of the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, will go towards water, sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure along Carier and Cunard Streets in Beaurivage. The work will include installing several hundred metres of watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewers, as well as restoring the roadway and sidewalks. The federal government is spending $3,097,600 on the upgrades, with the province spending $2,064,860 and the Town of Beaurivage is spending $1,032,740. The federal government said the upgrades in Beaurivage will enable up to 150 new housing units in the community, 20 of which will be affordable units. “Investing in reliable infrastructure helps communities grow and improves residents’ daily lives. In Beaurivage, these projects will support housing construction and community development. In Grand Bouctouche, they will improve sidewalks and pedestrian safety so that children, seniors, and people of all abilities can get around safely. The Government of Canada is proud to help build stronger, more accessible, and better-connected communities,” said MP Dominic LeBlanc in the announcement. Meanwhile, spending through the Active Transportation Fund will go towards improvements in Grand Bouctouche for pedestrian safety in the town school zone by resurfacing and adding new sidewalks along Rue Du Park, Rue Landry and Rue de l’Église. Three speed bumps and signage to slow traffic will also be installed. The spending for these upgrades includes $586,680 from the federal government and $391,120 from the Town of Grand Bouctouche. “This investment represents an important step toward making Grand Bouctouche safer and more accessible for everyone. By improving sidewalks, traffic-calming measures, and pedestrian infrastructure near our schools, we are creating safer routes for students, families, seniors, and people with limited mobility,” said Grand Bouctouche Mayor Aldéo Saulnier.
