Two youths have been arrested following an altercation at a high school football game in Moncton. On Friday around 8 p.m., Codiac Regional RCMP responded to what they called a ‘disturbance’ involving several youths at École Odyssée. According to police, during the altercation, one of the youths displayed what was believed to be a weapon. As a precaution, the school grounds were temporarily evacuated. Police noted some people sought shelter inside the school. They were able to leave once there was no longer a threat to public safety. Police said the suspect left the area before officers arrived. Police Dog Services, the Emergency Response Team and RCMP Air Services were called in to help. RCMP said around 10:15 p.m. a youth turned himself into police and was taken into custody. A second youth, who matched the description of the suspect, was also arrested. As of Friday night, police said both individuals remained in police custody. No injuries were reported. In an email to parents, the Anglophone East School District said it is in communication with and cooperating fully with police. “We know this was a concerning situation for the students, families, staff and community members who were in attendance, and we are thankful that everyone is safe,” Superintendent Randolph MacLEAN said in the email. “We also appreciated the cooperation of everyone who responded quickly and calmly during the evacuation.” The altercation took place during a game between École Odyssée and Moncton High School.
