Two people are facing charges in connection with the alleged assault and forcible confinement of a 59-year-old New Brunswick man in Esgenoôpetitj First Nation last week. The RCMP says officers responded to a report of a man held against his will and assaulted with a weapon on Aug. 29. The man later got to safety and called police around 2:04 a.m., according to an RCMP news release. The man went to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. “The individuals were known to each other, and there was no risk to the general public,” the release reads. Around 4:30 a.m. that same day, police found Chrissy Dedam, 44, at her residence in Esgenoôpetitj First Nation and arrested her. She appeared in court and was charged with assault with a weapon. Dedam was remanded into custody and denied bail on Tuesday. That same day, police arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the incident. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Later that day officers also arrested Maxime Bouchard, 41, in connection with the assault. He was charged with breach of probation and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 8.
