19-year-old man arrested after fireworks shot at man in Blackville, N.B.

A 19-year-old man from Blackville, N.B., has been charged after a man was shot with live fireworks in Quarryville, N.B.

The Blackville RCMP received a report on Saturday of an assault that happened on July 18 around 10:30 p.m. on Route 108.

Police say it was reported that a man was approached by two individuals who began shooting live fireworks at him before fleeing the scene. The victim was hit several times and sustained minor injuries, according to a news release from the RCMP.

Following an investigation, police arrested a 19-year-old man from Blackville on Sunday.

Nathan Lee Gillespie appeared in Miramichi provincial court and was charged with:

• using explosives with intent to do bodily harm
• assault with a weapon
• possession of a weapon contrary to an order
• failure to comply with probation order
• resisting arrest

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

An unnamed second 19-year-old man from Blackville was arrested Monday in connection to the assault.

He was later released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court in November.
