A list of school closures in the Maritimes

A storm closed schools and cut powers for thousands of people in the Maritimes on Wednesday.

Nova Scotia

• Tri-County Regional Centre for Education: All schools in Digby county are closed. Worksites remain open. Yarmouth and Shelburne counties remain open. Progress conferences that were scheduled at Digby county schools are also cancelled.

• Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education: All schools are closed. Offices and worksites will also remain closed.

• South Shore Regional Centre for Education: The Forest Heights Family of Schools will be closed. This includes Big Tancook Elementary. Progress conferences that were scheduled at these schools are also cancelled.

• Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education: All schools in Cumberland County, Pictou County, Colchester County and schools in the municipality of East Hants will be closed. Offices and work sites remain open.

• Strait Regional Centre for Education: East Antigonish Education Centre/Academy will begin dismissing Students at 11:15 a.m. Bayview Education Centre will start dismissing students at 12:15 p.m.

• Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education: Classes are cancelled for all students.

• CSAP: Classes are canceled at the Rose-des-Vents School.

• Acadia University will delay opening campus until 10 a.m.

• St. Francis Xavier University will delay opening until 10 a.m.. The X-Ring ceremony and associated Students’ Union events will proceed as planned.

• NSCC: Cumberland Campus, including the Amherst Learning Centre, and Truro Campus are closed. The Annapolis Valley Campus, including the Centre of Geographic Sciences, is also closed.

New Brunswick

• Anglophone South School District: All schools are closed.

• Anglophone East School District: All schools will be closed.

• Francophone South School District: Some schools are closed.

• Mount Allison University will delay opening until 10 a.m.

• University of New Brunswick: UNB’s Saint John campus will delay opening until 10 a.m.

• NBCC: St. Andrews Campus is opening late at 10 a.m.

Prince Edward Island

• Public Schools Branch: All classes are cancelled for the day.

• French Language School Board: All classes are cancelled for the day.

• Holland College: The opening of the Tourism and Culinary Centre and MCCE is delayed until 9 a.m. A further announcement will be made at 7 a.m.

• UPEI is delaying opening until 12 p.m. at both the Charlottetown and St. Peter’s Bay campuses, with a further update at 10 am. The AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital will remain open for emergencies.
