A low-pressure system exiting the northeastern U.S. will bring a mix of snow, ice pellets and rain to the Maritimes Friday night and Saturday. The mix of snow, ice pellets, and rain will end west-to-east Saturday afternoon into evening. Areas that could pick up more snow include around the Bay of Fundy coastline of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, interior areas of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Those locations could pick up five-to-10 cm of snow. The snow will be wet and compact, in some cases mixed with or turning over to rain. Round two late Sunday into Monday A second weather system will move out of the northeastern U.S. on Sunday. This one is expected to be stronger and slower moving. An initial round of snow will arrive in southwestern New Brunswick and western Nova Scotia late Sunday afternoon and evening. Further periods of a snow-and-ice-pellets mix for Nova Scotia on Monday. There will be lighter snow in southern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island on Monday. The light snow in southern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island will end by Monday evening. The snow, ice pellet and rain mix in Nova Scotia will end Monday night. As of Friday, the highest potential for snow and ice pellet accumulations of 10-to-20 cm was for Nova Scotia, especially for the Atlantic coastal counties. The rest of the province with has a potential five-to-10 cm of snow. The initial snow Sunday night could also total five-to-10 cm in the southwest of New Brunswick. If the weather system starts trends further south in the forecast through the weekend, that would reduce the amount of snow expected in parts of Nova Scotia. You should check in on the forecast for your area a few times this weekend for Sunday evening through Monday.
