ST. JOHN’S — Newfoundland and Labrador’s police oversight agency has charged an on-duty officer with a weapons offence. The province’s Serious Incident Response Team, or SIRT-NL, says it charged a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officer for careless storage of a firearm, ammunition and a prohibited weapon. A news release posted Friday to the agency’s website says the charge stems from an incident in November in Corner Brook, a small city in western Newfoundland. The release says the officer is scheduled to appear in court in July. The agency does not offer any other details about what happened.
