N.S. MLA taking time off work after MS diagnosis

Denise Peterson-Rafuse, NDP MLA for Chester-St. Margaret’s, announced today that she will be temporarily taking a period away from work to deal with ongoing health concerns.

Ms. Peterson-Rafuse has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and is receiving treatment for MS-related symptoms.

“My constituency office will remain open and fully staffed while I am off work, and I know they will continue to serve the people of Chester-St. Margaret’s well,” said Peterson-Rafuse in a statement issued by the Nova Scotia NDP.

Peterson-Rafuse has received permission from the Speaker of the House of Assembly for absences during the upcoming Legislative Session.

“Denise is a person for whom it is not natural to set work aside and attend to matters of herself. But health comes first. The NDP Caucus joins the people of Chester-St. Margaret’s in wishing Denise well, and looking forward to her return,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill .
